The Owner and Maker of the Flute Swab – Melissa Richmond

Melissa Richmond was born in Claremont, NH, and has resided there full-time again since 2011.
She began playing the flute in the 5th grade and has been playing ever since. Melissa has a Bachelor of Music from Dalhousie University, where she studied for 5 years with flautist and Flute Swab creater Elizabeth Dubois McCarthy. She also has a Master of Science Degree in Non Profit Leadership from New England College.

Currently Melissa is the Executive Director of the West Claremont Center for Music and the Arts,
a private instructor of flute, and a performer on flute/piccolo. She is a member of the Windham Orchestra, and performs in several ensembles with local professionals. Having used the Flute Swab for piccolo and flute for 10 years, Melissa understands the benefits the ease of use and quality of this product offers to players of every age and ability.

The Creator of the Flute Swab – Elizabeth Du Bois McCarthy

Elizabeth DuBois McCarthy has spent her adult life in Nova Scotia. She was born and raised in Indiana where she began flute at age nine. She studied with Donald Peck, Joseph Mariano, Aurèle Nicolet, Marcel Moyse, & Geoffrey Gilbert. Beth holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the Eastman School of Music and a  Master’s Degree from Emporia State University in Emporia, Kansas. She has played Principal Flute in the Winnipeg Symphony (Manitoba) and the Atlantic Symphony (Nova Scotia).
She was the founding president of the Atlantic Flute Society. Her students range from young to adult and beginner to advanced. She is Instructor of Flute at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Beth encourages her students to pursue the highest standard possible. She believes the Flute Swab allows them to support this pursuit by helping them to keep their flutes in top form.
